New research on barefoot running
Sports Injury Bulletin reports that barefoot running is not necessarily the resounding success in reducing running injuries as claimed. The running technique of landing on the mid or forefoot does seem to reduce lower limb impact loading but some research indicates that there are increased likely of metatarsal stress fracture. It’s recommended that the technique is introduced gradually over many months, avoid hill running and it is unsuitable for runners with a history of plantar fasciitis.
